I am was so naive when it comes to medical stuff. I'm getting better. I always thought an ulcer was one thing: a stomach problem that was treated with pink medicine; sort of a source of jokes. Then I read more about Charcot foot and was stopped cold when I read about the danger of a foot ulcer. A what? Well, now I understand that a foot ulcer is simply an open wound. Not just a cut but also any open access (cracked skin, a blister...) can let germs jump in. Check out why a foot ulcer is no joke. I only just found that info, a few weeks too late. I had a shoe rubbing the side of my foot. I didn't know it. Then one day it was bleeding! I got an emergency appointment with the podiatrist, she sent me straight to the ER, and the next morning I only had nine toes. All because of a "simple foot wound". In fact there IS no "simple" foot wound for a diabetic. I now understand that any opening on the foot should get attention, probably by a podiatrist. Wounds around or under the foot would be rinsed with sterile water, and a dab of zinc oxide. It is an excellent product. for wound care in podiatry. If it's a toe, bandage the toe but do not cover the tip! And again, see the doctor. This is serious stuff. Hospital time could be required. Here is a complete guide to dealing with giabetic foot wounds. Read it.
