Revealing My Diagnosis
When I learned that I was T2D, I was stunned but not embarrassed. Why should have been? Sure, I might have prevented it. but I had it. I told family and a few friends, and the family was as stunned as I was, the friends were more casual. They accepted the information, one even said "Oh, you too?" And one friend, a very good friend) sort of piled on with "Well, you should have…". or " Now you need to..." and she supplied her list of the causes and recommended courses of action! I didn't need that.
So how did you break the news? Were there any changes in friendships?

Reversing the Situation…
Probably we all have some friends who suddenly strike us as likely waiting to be diagnosed. Once we become aware, don't we see the possible signs in others? Weight issues, sugary foods, too often with fast food? maybe a bit too much drinking? So how to gently suggest they get a blood test? You want to help them if they might be over the mark and prediabetic,...or worse. How to gently approach the subject when the likely reaction would be "oh, you can't be serious!" But you are.
I am not yet successful at finding an easy way for somebody to check their health without a big expense. A blood test might run $75+, not including a doctor visit. Yes, there should be at least some annual community health event, but Google finds nothing in El Dorado County since 2015. I wonder if the Diabetes Education Center offers any help? That's on my list to check. If I find nothing, I guess I'll have to try becoming an activist. Hell, I'm up for it.
