This morning's fasting GL was 109, my BP was 104. Not bad. Then I ate breakfast. After a prolonged period without any exercise (18+ months in a CROW boot and NO walking more than necessary) then barely two months in "orthotic" shoes that rubbed my foot to the point of getting a toe amputated, I was given permission to resume walking on my treadmill. Wearing comfy slippers, I spent 30 minutes at a strolling pace on level "ground" and it felt good to develop a little sweat. The lesson? A weekend breakfast is typically a cup of plain yogurt, a couple scrambled eggs and some turkey bacon, but today I got carried away. I added a little pure maple syrup to the yogurt (actually a good thing [1] on glycemic load) and TWO smallish hash brown patties. I knew that was a push. I checked blood numbers two hours after eating and got a glucose 190. Yes, obviously a mistake with my menu choice. Then I set off for 30 minutes on the treadmill, pretending I was on a trail in the mountains. When my timer signaled I was finished, I checked blood numbers again; the GL was down to 125! Blood pressure was 93. Read about my switch to beet root capsules and their effect. I continue my new career as a diabetic lab rat. - - - 1] Don't believe it? Read over this page and discover that pure maple syrup contains "54 beneficial compounds in ..., five of which have never before seen in nature."
