Fact: Most vegetables will have no "portion size" suggestions. You know that you get told portion limits for grain products (cereals and bakery items) and dairy (from milk to cheese to ice cream.) And while there are no portions for meats, you know that they bring fats to the table. So what about carrots? Broccolli? Leafy greens? Eat all you want. Root vegetables are starch, so they can have portion suggestions, but all in all, a plant-based diet brings only carbs. Well, with very little fat, so this is a way to clean up your act. Go plant-based, skip (or dramatically reduce meat and dairy) to get healthier. Watch Neal Barnard tell you how this works. It really squelches the idea of a keto (low carb, high fat) diet when he tells how fat blocks insulin. So it seems a better argument than skipping carbs. You decide. I should change my new mantra to Meals as Meds, Produce as Pills.
