What percentage of T2D go blind? * From VisionWeb: "About one in five newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetics show signs of diabetic retinopathy; after 15 years with diabetes, that jumps to nearly 80 percent of Type 2 (and nearly all of those with Type 1)." * See more sources...) How common is T2D neuropathy?Surprisingly, percentages vary a lot in research, but I found numbers usually below 50 decent, but increasing with duration of the disease, etc. Pick a study from this list. Caution: it gets pretty technical and murkey. What about Charcot foot? "Stabilizing the foot and ankle is key, and in most cases a “Charcot shoe” or “Charcot boot” is fitted to relieve pressure and protect from further damage." Been there, done that!"Nerve damage (neuropathy) is a complication of diabetes that leads to a loss of sensation in the feet. Some people with diabetes can no longer feel when something has irritated or even punctured the skin. A wound as small as a blister can progress to a serious infection in a matter of days." True story: Podiatrist casually proscribes a new show with insole for my Charcot/ She sends me to a clinic where a simple form is made, my new show fits a big snug and I don'r notice. A small spot rubs to become an open woulds, A few days before I have an appointment to check this, the check results in my having a toe amputated! Thanks. doc/
