Hello,
My name is Candy, I'm a friend of Steve's and am very supportive of the advances he's made in researching the various issues diabetes can cause. That said, I'm a Type 1 diabetic and battled diabetes my entire life... Many mistakes by professionals trying to learn for themselves about how to manage diabetes has lead to tons of misinformation available... I've tried pretty much every diabetic eating phase developed in the last 35 years until I tried the Mediterranean diet and made some very fantastic discoveries that only helped so far because of all the medications I was put on...
Due to being on 5 different types of insulin, I had a difficult time maintaining a decent weight. Even at 500 Calories of food daily, I was gaining weight to the point of almost 300 pounds. In July of 2016, I had Verticle Sleeve Gastrectomy and have lost 102 pounds since surgery and 36 pounds before surgery. However, it only rescued me short term from insulin trap for a while, as I'm now back on one insulin until I can get Duodenal Switch surgery.
I joined this forum to continue learning about diabetes and its affects on myself and others because every journey is individual and everyone has the ability to contribute or learn from one another.
