The intent is valid: create a place where snapshots of the many problems facing a diabetic can be presented to help us be more aware! The PCP has limited time (20 minutes?) and basically looks over the blood test results, comments, advises any change to medication, and sends me on my way. I see a podiatrist who is very good but it's all about feet. I saw the ophthalmologist all about the exact thing that was happening to my eye, I saw a laser specialist to undergo shots and laser work which did something but there was little conversation. Specialists. All good, but no real time for discussions. The surgeon who amplutated my pinky toe actually told me that the PCP should always look at my feet! Well, the podiatrust does that, but I guess the PCP should have the background to sketch in a more complete picture of what's going on with my diabetes?
All good doctors, all jammed for time. I have mentioned the plan for this forum to several medical people, all have said it was a good idea. Let diabetics share things they have been told (we don't all get the same info) and ask questions. Not to circumvent the doctors, maybe to ease their load. But trying to get the word out to diabetics needs some mention in the medical circles. I am still hoping thst the Marshall Hospital Diabetes Education team will at least come see what's here, commenting or correcting anything that seems a bit off target. I also have hope that Kaiser will check in. I meant this to target our local diabetics, keeping it in our geo community for any references to services.
Okay, it's a slower start than I had hoped for, but I'm still optimistic that it will be worth our time. The plan is to not be talking about problems AFTER they have hit!
