Before I knew I was diabetic, I was interested in eating "right", I was just doing it wrong (thus the diabetes!) I happened to watch a new video on Netflix called Forks over Knives about curing diseases with diet instead of surgery. While it focuses on cholesterol and heart disease, it also includes diabetics who were turning their disease around with a vegetarian approach. They were losing weight and leaving medications behind. And no, this was not a miracle diet pill. it was a 30-year stiudy of how red meat and dairy fats were shown as causes of major health problems in the many countries studied. At the time, it was just interesting. I had no diseases! Then within a month or so, I was discoved to be diabetic! I was talking with a doctor who delivered the news. With no idea of what was next, I asked if I should become a vegetarian? His simple answer was "Oh, they've tried that." While trying to follow the ADA guideline of getting 60g of carbs every mealk, plus a few snacks, I was trying all sorts of things to get that done. My A1c was dropping but oh so slowly. I found another video by an obesity doctor who presents a ' TED Talk about carbs. She basically has patients avoid carbs! Certainly to reduce the day's carb intake to maybe half what the ADA suggests. I am getting fasting numbers that are in prediabetuc range (100 to 130) and think that's good. But I think I will cut back ob carbs and see if I can drop down to 100 on a continuing basis? I was in the hospital for two weeks with measured meals (60g per) and was consistently just under 100. Why can't I do this at home?

I'm not giving up meat until it threatens my life more. However, I have cut back on my carbs to the point where some days are near 100g and most days are under 200g.
