"Majority of California adults have prediabetes or diabetes" – UCLA Health Bulletin, March 2016
"Half of El Dorado County adults on path to diabetes" – Mountain Democrat, April, 2015
My small effort to gather information to inform those who already know they are diabetic is only in this development stage, barely noticed so far. Low numbers of visitors and only one brave new new member who has not yet returned for a second visit! And the other few members are all friends whom I could invite personally. Google is still not finding the forum, Bing actually did, but only a few people in a 100 even use Bing.
One unhappy reality seems to be that --so far-- I have no great way to get the word out to the most accessible crowd: older adults in El Dorado or Sacramento diabetes classes! I am trying to get the medical people to read this forum and help make sure it fits. Information offered is linked to medical sources, but it would still be nice to have some local medical oversight. And here comes the irony: they seem to be too busy trying to help diabetics!
Clearly a little forum with only a few members does not (yet) augment their efforts. But even while I mention this forum to others, I hear opinions that many people in this "older" target audience are not computer users. One person even remarked that she knew older diabetics who KNEW they were type 2 but were not willing to change their habits! What habits? Eating better food is a new idea?
Maybe this forum idea is pure folly but I am finding it worthwhile, if only for my own expanding awareness. I keep finding more proof that large chunks of important news have either never been brought to my attention or were not made as clear as needed. My whole plan was to not just post my own medical history, but to be the example YOU do not want to follow! I want to keep YOU from getting too far along, to be more aware of what YOU should be aware of to get treatment faster. But with no audience, I'm whistling in the dark. I'll keep going, but wow, I wish some diabetic educators were on board.
