"For a normal reading, your blood pressure needs to show a top number that’s between 90 and 120, and a bottom number that’s between 60 and 80." – Healthline.comOur circulation gets a little worse with every year. Most of us end up with more weight and less exercise, leading to diabetes and the potential for heart problems. And all the while, with all the fragmented medical conversations, how many of us have even heard anything about Nitric Oxide (chemically identified as NO)? Well, it's really interesting to learn just how NO works, and what effect it has on our blood pressure (BP). In short, it relaxes arteries, the heart works less hard, blood pressure drops. And beets are a great source for nitric oxide. Follow the links to learn about beets and NO in general. Read my own experience with beets here. You will be surprised at what we have not heard about. Just an FYI...The top number is s ystolic, from Greek systole "a drawing together, contraction". Think " syst-" as fist clenching. Diastolic is the bottom number, the word comes from Greek diastol, "separation, drawing asunder." If your systolic is higher than 130, add beets to your daily diet. Beet juice lowers blood pressure. Check it out!

UPDATE: As an FYI, vis-a-vis beets lowering blood pressure: After a few years of 130+ systolic and thinking that that was good [1], I had it pointed out that I could (and should!) do better. I started adding more beets to my diet. Lots more. And sure enough, within a few days my systolic was dropping like crazy. Actually hitting 100 … and even lower. I eased up (mostly because the brand I was buying were sort of expensive ($4 a pack of 6± cooked whole beets) for a daily indulgence. Canned pickled beets at $1.20 seemed a good option. I switched, and still had continued good results. Then I got interested in another option: capsules of beetroot powder. Really cheap at $7/100. I have been using these now and for the past 30+ days my systolic has been generally between 105 and 115. And of course I wondered why beets had this effect, leading me to find out just how important nitic oxide is in how blood works. It all keeps adding more advantages to a plant-based diet. - - - 1] While 130+ is acceptable, <120 is the desired normal.

"The kidneys help filter wastes and extra fluids from blood, and they use a lot of blood vessels to do so. ... Over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure can cause arteries around the kidneys to narrow, weaken or harden. These damaged arteries are not able to deliver enough blood to the kidney tissue." — A list of Info
This was a good addition to the list of problems we face with diabetes. So far the form has been focused on only the problems I have had personal issues with, and I am not unhappy to have so far escaped being told of any kidney issues. But reading the info about BP taking out the tiny vessels serving the kidneys is so close to the explanations given for damage to similar small vessels of eyes and feet (and gums!) that I want to see if glucose isn't also a part of the problem.
