There are already many meds mentioned here that are unfamiliar to me. I'm surprised at the many ways different doctors decide what to do for a diabetic. And a few days ago there the evening news mentioned Invokana and its potential for increasing the chances of amputation! Read this FDA report. Slick! Glad I'm not on that. What do you actually know about what you take? Only what you heard at the doctor's? There's more. Two excellent sources of info would be WebMD and Drugs.com. It's a good idea to refresh or deepen your knowledge: What is the drug designed to do? How does it do it? Don't assume! I have found drugs that work for the same goal but in very different ways, and the possible side effects that can be different. I was put on Jardiance but never noticed any real change in fasting glucose tests. I asked the doc why I was on it? She flat out told me that it could not have lowered my A1c as much as I had managed with diet. Her plan was that it would help me lose weight! That qas a surprise, but now I know how that might happen. Because now I know how Jardiance works and the weight loss expected is pretty slight! Metformin causes B -12 deficiency. Side effects include balance problems and peripheral neuropathy. I have problems with both, so is metformin helping that along? Stay tuned. So what DO you know about your meds?
